The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team takes on Orange Coast Friday night in the Lasers' biggest match of the season so far.
The match, which was originally scheduled for 6 p.m., was switched to 5 p.m. because Saddleback is playing at IVC after the big match-up on Friday night. Saddleback is without a home court because of gym floor issues.
The IVC-OCC match features the top two ranked teams in the last state poll. Orange Coast was ranked first and Irvine Valley was ranked second in the poll that was sent out last week.
But since then, Orange Coast lost to Golden West and Irvine Valley continued to stay unbeaten. The team's 3-0 win over Cypress on Wednesday moved the Lasers record to 13-0 overall.
Sophomore Chelsea Pavlik led the Lasers in kills for the 13th straight match this year, finishing with 17 against Cypress.
She also had 15 digs and five aces.
Mari Guadagnini and Katie Pascoe each added seven kills. Gauadagnini also contributed six digs and three aces. Kelly Keating finished with 37 assists.
IVC hit .385 as a team.
Led by an 18-kill, 14-dig performance by sophomore Jacqi Reed, Orange Coast returned to the win column (after its loss to Golden West) with a 30-16, 30-27, 30-27 win over host Riverside on Wednesday.
Freshman libero Kayla Cutler notched a match-high 19 digs, while setter Emily Lyon had 41 assists.
Heading into Friday night's match, IVC leads the conference standings at 6-0, Golden West and Orange Coast are each 5-1 and Fullerton is next at 4-2.
