The Irvine Valley women’s volleyball team stayed unbeaten on the season with a straight-game victory over Moorpark in a non-conference match at home Wednesday night.
IVC, which improved its record to 6-0, came out on top, 30-23, 30-22, 30-24.
The Lasers, who are ranked 10th in the state, are off to one of the best starts in program history.
IVC has dropped just one game (3-1 victory over SD Mesa on Sept. 5) total in its six victories.
It should get tougher for the Lasers in a couple of weeks when Orange Empire Conference play starts. The top three-ranked teams in the state are from the conference (Orange Coast, Golden West and Fullerton).
But the Lasers will enjoy the ride for now.
Sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Pavlik paced the attack against Moorpark. The bounce-back player from St. Regis University finished with 23 kills and 11 digs. She hit .543 with only four errors in 35 attempts.
Pavlik has led IVC in kills in all six matches so far this season.
She was averaging a conference best 5.44 kills per game heading into Wednesday night’s action.
Sophomore middle blocker Jessica Flood, making her first appearance of the season for IVC, finished with a solid 15 kills in the victory on Wednesday. She also hit .429 on the night.
Freshman outside hitter Mari Guadagnini added seven digs and freshman outside hitter Camryn Torromeo finished with five digs.
Sophomore setter Kelly Keating had four blocks and 33 assists. Keating leads the conference in assists, averaging 12.4 per game.
The Lasers have one more non-conference match left on the schedule. They host Palomar Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.
And then conference play begins with IVC playing at Santa Ana on Sept. 28 at 5 p.m.
