Women's doubles team advances to regionals

The Irvine Valley women's tennis players Maya Morris and Emily Davies qualified for the Southern California Regionals with a strong showing at the Orange Empire Conference Finals this week.
Morris and Davies received a bye in the first round and then defeated Riverside's team of Randi Baeza and Kristrina Bloom, 6-3, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinals and advance.
Morris and Davies lost in the quarters to the top-seeded team of Brittany Bass and Melissa Boyer from Orange Coast, 6-1, 6-0.
Morris and Davies earned all-Orange Empire Conference honors.
The Southern California Regionals are April 30 to May 2 at Orange Coast.
Davies also won her play-in match at the conference tournament. She beat Santa Ana's Brenda Pastor, 6-0, 6-0, before losing in the first round.
Four other IVC singles players each won first-round matches at the conference tourney.
Lindsay Beacker defeated Cypress' Nicole El-Ali, 6-0, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3). Beacker lost in the second round.
Tiana Morris, who was seeded fifth, defeated Madeline Hovarter of Fullerton, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, before falling in the second round.
Maya Morris defeated Rylee Stowell of Saddleback, 6-4, 6-3, before losing in the second round.
And Heather Withers beat Fabiana Ortuno of Santa Ana, 6-4, 6-2, before falling in the second round.
The Irvine Valley women's team will compete at the Ojai Tournament next week.
