Irvine Valley's top women's tennis player Natali Cespedes had quite a run in the Orange Empire Conference Championships last week at Orange Coast.
Cespedes reached the semifinals.
Cespedes needed three sets, but defeated Saddleback's Kathy Dennis, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, in a quarterfinal match at Orange Coast on Thursday.
Cespedes moved into the semifinals, which were scheduled for Friday, but called off because of rainy weather. The rest of the tournament is not going to be made up.
She was scheduled to meet No. 1 seed Anabel Sanchez of Riverside in the semis. Cespedes was the fourth seed in the tournament.
Cespedes and teammate Maya Morris lost in the quarterfinals of doubles competition on Thursday. Cespedes and Morris were defeated by Nisa Meineke and Andrea Warren of Saddleback, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1.
Cespedes and Morris had already qualified for the Southern California Regional tournament by reaching the quarterfinals. Cespedes, who was named an all-conference player, will also compete in the regionals in singles.
