The Irvine Valley women's soccer team will forfeit its Orange Empire Conference match on Friday that was scheduled to be played at Riverside.
Despite a deep squad to begin the season, IVC has been hurt by injuries over the last week, and won't have enough healthy players for the match on Friday.
"It pains us to make such a decision when our team is much-improved from the last few years, but in the interest of student health and well being and the chance to complete the rest of the season we will forfeit," Irvine Valley Dean and Athletic Director Keith Shackleford said on Thursday afternoon.
Irvine Valley was coming off a 2-1 conference victory over Golden West on Tuesday at home. The win improved IVC's record to 3-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference.
Freshman forward Arabia Ruiz leads the team in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Freshman forward Monica Ramirez is next with three goals and one assist for seven points.
Irvine Valley is scheduled to play at Cypress in another conference match next Tuesday at 3 p.m.
