Women's soccer team edged at Saddleback
Nov 11, 2008 The Irvine Valley women's soccer team gave up two second-half goals and lost to rival Saddleback, 2-1, in an Orange Empire Conference game on Monday at Saddleback.
The game was a make-up contest after last Tuesday's match was canceled because of poor field conditions. IVC got on the board first.
A shot on goal by Irvine Valley was deflected by a Saddleback defender out to sophomore midfielder Julie Leguizamo, who was able to flick the loose ball into the net from five feet away to put IVC up, 1-0, in the 31st minute.
The Lasers continued to lead until midway through the second half. Marissa Pickett sent a pass to Jericho Baichtal, who knocked it into the net to tie the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute.
Pickett then had one of her passes returned to her and she made the most of it, knocking in the game-winning goal with 15 minutes to play.
Sophomore goalie Lupe Jimenez accounted for seven saves for Irvine Valley while Kat Pegg had two saves for the Gauchos.
IVC's record fell to 3-15-3 overall and 1-10-3 in conference.
IVC hosts Santa Ana in its final home match of the season Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
