The Irvine Valley women’s soccer team ran into a squad on a roll Tuesday afternoon at home.
Orange Coast won its fifth straight match, defeating Irvine Valley, 1-0.
The Pirates improved their record to 7-4-3 overall and 5-2-1 in conference. Orange Coast was three points behind Cypress and Riverside for second place in the conference standings heading into Tuesday’s action.
Orange Coast got the only goal it needed in the first half on Tuesday. Sophomore Teresa Warner scored off an assist from Kaleigh Trider.
The Pirates had a couple of other good opportunities late, including a run in on goal by Beth Krikorian. But her low shot was knocked away on a sliding kick save by IVC keeper Lupe Jimenez.
The Lasers pressured in the final 10 minutes, but couldn’t get any quality shots on goal.
Orange Coast ended up out-shooting IVC, 14-4, in the contest.
“I thought we played much better in the second half,” IVC coach Simon Davies said. “We had opportunities we just weren’t quite there. We need to step it up a little more.”
Irvine Valley, which saw its record slip to 3-9-3 overall and 1-4-3 in conference, plays at Fullerton at 3 p.m. on Friday.
