The Irvine Valley women's soccer team couldn't quite pull out its second straight win.
The Lasers fell, 1-0, to Saddleback Tuesday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference match at Saddleback.
Maile Gannon was able to put in the only score of the game, breaking open on a straight run at the goal and receiving a pass from Ashley Novack.
The Gauchos had two other good chances to score, both coming on penalty kicks.
Just 11 minutes into the match, IVC was whistled for intentionally handling the ball inside the penalty area on a Saddleback crossing pass.
The Gauchos’ Taylor Knight hit a strong penalty kick which hit off the cross bar and back into play. The Gauchos took possession of the loose ball but couldn’t get another shot off.
In the 65th minute of the match, Gannon was on another run up the middle when she was tripped up from behind, drawing a penalty kick for the Gauchos. However, Laura Espinoza’s shot to the right side of the net was deflected by Laser goalkeeper Lupe Jimenez.
Five yellow cards were handed out in the final 11 minutes of the match.
Jimenez ended up making 11 saves on the day for the Lasers.
Saddleback’s Liana Signorile returned to the goalkeeper position for the Gauchos after a week’s absence to record her seventh shutout of the season.
IVC's record slipped to 2-10-0 overall and 2-6-0 in conference.
Irvine Valley starts the second round of conference play on Friday, traveling to Santiago Canyon.
