The Irvine Valley College women's golf team won its first ever Orange Empire Conference title Monday afternoon, finishing 20 strokes ahead of the competition at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
It is the first conference title for a men's or women's golf team at Irvine Valley.
The Lasers went into Monday's conference finals tied with Saddleback with records of 11-1. By winning the conference finals Irvine Valley earned three more victories to end up by itself at the top at 14-1.
Despite windy conditions, the Lasers shot a team score of 376 on Monday.
Santiago Canyon was second at 396 and Saddleback took third at 407.
Irvine Valley's Kristin Medlin led the Lasers, finishing at 87 on the 18-hole South course. Par on the course was 74.
Lorraine Fernando of Orange Coast was the medalist with a score of 83. Kim Ensey of Orange Coast was second at 84.
Medlin ended up being named co-player of the year for the conference with Saddleback's Camille Guyton. Each player had a stroke total of 660 for the season.
Irvine Valley coach Ben Burnett shared conference coach of the year honors with Saddleback's Bill Cunnerty.
Irvine Valley players Allison Trent and Patty Doherty earned all-conference honors. They each finished among the top 10 players in the final conference scorer standings.
Trent, who shot a 90 on Monday, ended up with the sixth lowest total score for the year. Doherty, who carded a 98 on Monday, was the 10th in the overall standings.
Rouding out Irvine Valley's scoring players at the conference finals was Debbie Firman, who shot 101. Lauren Swanson was the Lasers' fifth scorer at 106.
Irvine Valley plays in the Southern California Regionals next Monday and Tuesday at Sandpiper in Santa Barbara.
