IVC's Nicole Rivera wins individual conference title

Irvine Valley women's golfer Nicole Rivera trounced her fellow competitors with her 2 under par score of 71 at El Prado's Chino Creek Course
during the final round of Orange Empire Conference Finals on Wednesday.
No one finished within six strokes of Rivera on the day. Rivera, who led the conference individual scoring average all season, was named the OEC Player of the Year.
She played the final nine
holes at 3 under par on Wednesday. Rivera opened with a three-putt bogey on the first
hole.
Coach Ben Burnett said Rivera then showed her mental toughness by parring the next four holes.
Rivera then turned in her only other bogey of the day on hole number 6.
But she bounced back with four birdies and 12 pars to finish out her round.
She was medalist for the round and medalist for the two-day tournament.
IVC sophomore Sam Roberts finished as the No. 2 golfer in conference for the second year in a row.
She finished strong with
a 1 over par back nine to post a final score of 82.
Her round included one birdie, eight pars, eight bogeys and a double bogey.
And IVC freshman Tiffany Kane finished eighth in conference scoring to earn a spot
on the all-conference team.
Her score of 85 consisted of two birdies, six
pars, seven bogeys and three double bogeys.
IVC wasn't eligible to compete in the final team standings because it fell one player short of the four-play minimum.
The Laser team will continue practicing to prepare for the Southern California
Regional Championship to be played next Monday and Tuesday on the
North Course of Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
