Golfer Felicia Titus signs with Cal State Fullerton

Intercollegiate women's golf will be reinstated at Cal State Fullerton for the 2009-10 season after an absence of more than two decades.

And the team's first signee was an Irvine Valley College player.

Orange Empire Conference player of the year Felicia Titus inked her letter to attend the school recently.

As a freshman this year, Titus led the Lasers to a conference title. And she qualified as an individual for the state tournament. She finished tied for eighth at the state tournament with teammate Sam Roberts.

Titus was the medalist for the Orange Empire Conference finals tournament and finished as the scoring average leader in the conference.

"I am happy for her," IVC Coach Ben Burnett said. "Felicia demonstrated a love for the game and a willingness to practice. Her experience in leading IVC to a 42-6 conference championship and playing steady golf to tie for the eighth best score as the State finals should help her succeed at the four-year level.

"With Irvine Valley gaining recognition as one of the best community college women's golf programs in Southern California, we expect to continuing winning championships and sending many more lady golfers from IVC into four-year programs.

"I think Felicia Titus will be the first of many to move on to four-year programs from Irvine Valley."

Jason Drotter will be interim director of golf operations and coach the Cal State Fullerton women's as well as the men's team. He currently is manager of Super Sports Golf and Recreation Center in Orange. He also was the coach of the boys' and girls' golf teams at Villa Park High School for the past six years. He was a standout golfer at Long Beach State and has been a teaching professional.

Fullerton will practice and compete at a number of local public and private courses.
