Women's golf team improves to 12-0
Sep 25, 2008
Led by freshmen Sam Roberts and Felicia Titus, the Irvine Valley women's golf team improved its conference record to 12-0 with four more wins at Tijeras Creek on Wednesday.
The Lasers stayed unbeaten by defeating rival Santiago Canyon by one stroke. The Lasers finished at 342. Santiago Canyon, which dropped to 8-4, was at 343. Santa Ana was next at 354.
Roberts scored 39 on the front nine holes and then another 39 on the back nine to card a 78.
Her round included three birdies, nine pars, three bogeys and three double bogeys.
Titus scored
a 79, carding a 38 on the back nine.
She had one birdie, 11 pars, four bogeys and two double bogeys.
Sophomore Val Watts scored 90 and sophomore Alex Calvillo came in at 95 to give IVC the victory.
"That was a great 95 score by Alex Calvillo," said
Coach Burnett. "Coming off a birdie on the eighth hole, Alex was
positioned to shoot a solid front 9 score of 40.
But on the ninth hole, her
first two tee shots hit the cart path and bounced right, into the street,
andout of bounds.
"She played holes 9, 10, 11 and 12, at 18 over par. Most would tend to lose focus and never recover from such a
string of blow up holes.
"However, Alex composed herself and played the
last six holes at 1 under par. Her birdie on No. 18 provided the
margin of IVC's 1 stroke victory."
The conference teams will
be hosted by Santiago Canyon next Monday at El Prado in Chino Hills.
