Sep 17, 2008
The Irvine Valley women's golf team defeated all four opponents on Monday at Oak Creek to take the early lead in the Orange Empire Conference standings.
Because it was IVC's home match, the Lasers' record moved to 4-0 in conference.
The Lasers and Santiago Canyon had identical scores after the first three golfers from each team finished. Team scores are determined on the best four scores per team.
IVC freshman Bianca Brown shot a personal best 38 on the last nine holes to give IVC a six-stroke victory over Santiago Canyon.
"We are two of the best six teams in California based upon pre-season competition," Irvine Valley coach Ben Burnett said of his team and Santiago Canyon. "I think we are very evenly matched."
Irvine Valley's three freshmen players, Brown, Sam Roberts and Felicia Titus, along with sophomore Val Watts combined to post the winning team score.
Roberts led the way with a score of 81. She shot 38 on the front nine of the golf course. Roberts had one birdie, eight pars, seven bogeys and two double bogeys.
Titus was next with a score of 82. She also sot 38 on the front nine. Brown finished at 85 and Watts had a score of 87.
Sophomore Alex Calvillo with a 92 and sophomore Courtney Schroeder with a 93 had Irvine Valley's throw out scores.
Irvine Valley plays again next Monday in a conference match, which features all six teams, at Riverview Golf Course.
