Three women's golfers move on to regionals

First-year Irvine Valley women's golfers Val Watts, Courtney Schroeder and Katie Parks earned all-conference recognition at the two-day Orange Empire Conference, which ended Wednesday at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
The three players also move on to compete as individuals in the Southern California Regional Championships at the River Course at Alisal, which is close to Solvang.
The 36 qualifiers and best two of six qualifying teams will advance to the State Finals in Fresno.
Watts ended up finishing tied for fourth in the final conference scoring average. She had a 18-hole average total of 83.44. Schroeder was seventh at 84.56.
The conference finals, held over two days, at the par 74 North and South Courses at Los Serranos proved to be a disappointment for the IVC team.
Although IVC finished third in the conference standings during the regular season with a record of 10-17, the Lasers finished fourth out of four teams at the conference finals. Santa Ana moved past IVC.
Coach Ben Burnett still expressed optimism when talking about next season.
"With four veteran ladies returning to lead the team, I think we can compete for the conference championship," Burnett said.
