The Irvine Valley women's golf team saw its season come to a close on Wednesday at the Southern California Regional torunament at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
The Lasers, who finished second in the Orange Empire Conference, placed sixth out of six teams at the regionals with a score of 749.
The top two teams qualified for the state championships next weekend in Fresno.
Teams from the Orange Empire Conference, Foothill Conference and Western States Conference competed at the two-day regional event.
Santa Barbara won the event, shooting scores of 7-over par 303 both days for a total of 606. Santa Barbara's Natalie Todd was the medalist with a score of 144.
College of the Canyons bested College of the Desert to advance as the second place team. Canyons finished with a score of 648. Desert was third at 710.
Long Beach City came in fourth at 715 and Saddleback was fifth at 719.
Twelve individual spots were also on the line for the state championships.
Only Santiago Canyon’s Esther Lee, who was the conference player of the year, advanced to represent the Orange Empire Conference. She finished with a score of 158.
Irvine Valley was led by Ailam Truong, who shot a two-day total of 181. Ashley Silver shot 183, Hiroko Hibara carded 189 and Lina Huh rounded out Irvine Valley's scoring at 196.
“Looking back on the season, I am very pleased with what this team accomplished, “ Irvine Valley Coach Ben Burnett said. “For us to beat two of the three teams at conference finals and also win the tie breaker to capture second over Golden West and move on to regionals was a memorable event for the IVC Women’s Golf Team."
Other highlights were Truong and Hibara being named all-conference and Burnett earning co-coach of the year honors in conference. Lina Huh missed being all-conference by one stroke.
Burnett said Silver, who was a freshman this season, is expected to be back next year to lead the team.
