Women's golf team finishes second at tourney

The Irvine Valley College women's golf team shot a team-best score for the season, finishing at 369 to tie for second place in a non-conference match Monday at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.
The Lasers tied with Long Beach City for second in the event.
Irvine Valley finished ahead of Mt. SAC, but was seven strokes behind winner Golden West.
Hiroko Hibara scored an 88 to pace IVC’s team effort.
“Skylinks is a tough golf course,” Irvine Valley Coach Ben Burnett said. “No one score in the 70’s. Only one player from Mt. SAC scored a 106. Except for five scores in the 80’s all other competitors scored in the 90’s.
"Playing a strange course is a good opportunity to practice utilizing strategy and course management. The greens were putting much faster than the ladies were accustomed to. Most players had trouble adjusting to the speed."
Burnett said he hoped the experience was something Irvine Valley players can utilize as they play their final three conference matches.
IVC hosts Saddleback and Santa Ana, Wednesday at Oak Creek. First tee time is 1:40 p.m. The Lasers entered the match with a record of 5-1.
