Two players from the Irvine Valley women's golf team will be moving on to Southern California Regional play next week.

Freshman Ailan Truong and sophomore Debbie Firman qualified as individuals for the regionals from the Orange Empire Conference finals that were held earlier this week at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.

Irvine Valley was the defending conference champion, but finished third in the team standings this season.

Saddleback won with a team score of 685 over the two-day event held Monday and Wednesday of this week. Golden West was second at 694 and Irvine Valley came in third at 769.

Santiago Canyon was fourth at 773 and Santa Ana and Fullerton competed, but didn't record a team score because the schools didn't have enough players.

The top two teams in the conference, Saddleback and Golden West, move on to regionals.

Troung and Firman were two of five individual qualifiers to advance from the conference. Troung was also named to the all-conference team as one of the top 10 players in the conference.

Linda Baad from Saddleback was named the conference's player of the year and Bill Cunerty of Saddleback and Besy Smith of Golden West were named co-coaches of the year.

Saddleback finished conference with a record of 13-0. Golden West was second at 9-4 and Irvine Valley came in third at 7-6.
