Jan 15, 2009

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team saw its record slip to 0-3 in Orange Empire Conference play with a 58-37 loss to Riverside Wednesday night in Riverside.

Riverside, which had dropped five of its last six games, snapped a three-game losing streak.

Riverside, despite shooting 35 percent (20 of 56) from the floor, controlled the game from start to finish. The Tigers (1-2, 10-11) used a 13-2 run to take a 18-8 lead and never looked back. With 1:22 remaining in the half, the Tigers had built a 26-12 lead.

The Lasers finished with more turnovers (21) than field goals made (15). Irvine Valley managed to fire off 73, with 41 coming in the second half.

The two teams each had two players score in double figures.

For Irvine Valley (0-3, 12-9), Courtney Kollasch scored 16 of the Lasers' 37 points.

Teammate Erika Garcia added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For Riverside, sophomore Kymberly Ooten scored 11 points and freshman Maria Mesa-Nauls added 10 points.

Irvine Valley plays at Saddleback on Friday in another conference game at 5:30 p.m.
