Second day results - Friday, Dec. 12
Grossmont 67 - San Diego Mesa 25 (consolation semifinal)
Leaders: Grossmont - Ashley McWhorter 16 points, LaKenya Simon-West 13 points and 6 rebounds, Sydney D'Angelo 10 points, Brittany Robinson 7 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals. San Diego Mesa - Tammie Edwards 8 points, Katherine Gerlek 6 points and 13 rebounds, Joy Tili 6 points and 7 rebounds.
Notes: Grossmont raced out to a 37-4 lead at halftime. San Diego Mesa shot just 22.9 percent for the game (8 of 35), including making just 2 of 19 shots in the first half. The Olympians also committed 43 turnovers. Grossmont had 17 assists on its 22 made baskets and ended up with 22 steals in the game.
Reedley 66 - Desert 53 (consolation semifinal)
Leaders: Desert - Kindra Harmon 11 points and 5 steals, Janira Arana 11 points, Tiaria Brown 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals and Brandi Baker 6 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Reedley - Blair Scott 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals, Sarina Herevia 14 points and 5 rebounds, Samantha Greene 10 points and 6 rebounds and Antonia Walker 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Notes: Merced took a 33-23 lead at halftime and held on from there. The two teams combined for 45 turnovers. Reedley finished with 56 rebounds, including 20 on the offensive end. Seven Reedley players grabbed at least five boards.
Chaffey 69 - Merced 44 (championship semifinal)
Leaders: Chaffey - Arielle McClellan 12 points, 6 assists and 4 steals, Keisha Mackall 11 points, Kenisha McKee 9 points, Aundria Anderson 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, Tamicka Mackall 8 points and 6 rebounds. Merced - Tanisha White 10 points and 4 rebounds, Ashley Willison 8 points, Tiara Dunson 8 points, 5 assists and 3 steals.
Notes: Chaffey moved into its third-straight championship final. Chaffey had a balanced attack with six players scoring at least 7 points and five players grabbing at least 4 rebounds. The Panthers out-scored Merced, 34-18, in the first half. Chaffey shot 56.0 percent (14 of 25) in that first half. The Panthers were also careful with the ball, committing just 12 turnovers. They had 16 steals on the other end. Merced shot 30.2 percent (16 of 53) for the game.
Irvine Valley 63 - Rio Hondo 57 (championship semifinal)
Leaders: Rio Hondo - Amanda Ragains 20 points and 7 rebounds, Cynthia Duarte 14 points and 3 assists, Lesley Vodicska 8 points and 5 assists, Champaign Hood 8 points. Irvine Valley - Courtney Kollasch 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Erika Garcia 16 points and 6 rebounds, Sydney Hughes 8 points, Alleson Frampton 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Notes: Irvine Valley handed Rio Hondo, which is ranked fifth in the state, its first defeat of the season. Irvine Valley used a strong second half, outscoring Rio Hondo, 38-25, to earn the victory and move on to the finals. IVC took the lead for good at 59-57 when Ashley Dunn made two free throws with 1:41 to play. And Alleson Frampton put the game away at 61-57 by making a free-throw line jumper with 9 seconds left. Rio Hondo led, 32-25, at the end of the first half. IVC took its first lead at 37-34 on a three-pointer by Courtney Kollasch with 15:37 left in the game. The Lasers led by as many as seven points in the second half. Rio Hondo tied the game at 47-47 with 8:45 to go and then again at 57-57 with 2:10 left on a baskety by Chapaign Hood. IVC scored the final six points. Rio Hondo defeated IVC by 16 points earlier this season in the San Diego Mesa Tournament.
