First day results - Thursday, Dec. 11
Chaffey 70 - Grossmont 56
Leaders: Chaffey - Arielle McClellan 14 points and 3 assists, Arione Nabors 11 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks, Keisha Mackall 11 points and 8 assists and Aundria Anderson 10 points and 8 rebounds. Grossmont- Brittany Robinson 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists, Ashley McWhorter 11 poitns and 8 rebounds and Sydney D'Angelo 10 points.
Notes: Chaffey out-scored Grossmont, 38-19, including going on an 8-0 run after the game was tied, 46-46, to rally for the win. Chaffey is the two-time defending tourney champion.
Merced 61 - San Diego Mesa 35
Leaders: San Diego Mesa - Tammie Edwards 18 points (4 of 6 three-pointers), Joy Tili 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Merced - Tiara Dunson 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, Tanisha White 9 points and 4 rebounds, Patricia O'Neill 9 points and 4 rebounds, Aariona Breazell 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Notes: Merced raced out to a 31-13 halftime lead. The Blue Devils out-rebounded Mesa, 44-31.
Irvine Valley 60 - College of the Desert 44
Leaders: Desert - Roberta Leash 14 points and 3 steals, Tiaria Brown 12 points and 8 rebounds and Alicia Washington 5 points and 12 rebounds. Irvine Valley - Courtney Kollasch 14 points and 11 rebounds, Brittney Horton 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Ashley Dunn 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Notes: Irvine Valley scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back. The Lasers finished with 16 assists on their 22 made field goals. The two teams combined for 44 turnovers. It was Irvine Valley's sixth straight win.
Rio Hondo 97 - Reedley 53
Leaders: Rio Hondo- Amanda Ragains 19 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, Natalee Venegas 12 points, Nykia Taylor 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists, Lyanna Augborne 11 points and 4 steals, Lesley Vodicska 10 points (4 of 4 from the field), 7 assists and 5 steals and Cynthia Duarte 10 points. Reedley - Sarina Herevia 14 points, Monique Reed 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals and Blair Scott 7 points and 10 rebounds.
Notes: Rio Hondo led, 53-16, at halftime. Reedley shot just 17.1 percent in the first half (6 of 35). Rio Hondo shot 48.1 percent for the game (37 of 77) and 44.8 percent from beyond the arc (13 of 29). The Roadrunners also finished with 24 assists and out-rebounded the Tigers, 60-45. Rio Hondo, which is ranked fifth in the state, stayed unbeaten at 12-0
