Women's basketball team wins second straight

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team is back on track.
The Lasers won their second straight game and improved their record to 2-2 in Orange Empire Conference action (13-7 overall) with a 76-70 win at Santa Ana last Friday night.
Santa Ana's record slipped to 13-7 overall and 2-2 in conference.
The Lasers jumped out to an early 16-9 lead and continued to pull away from the Dons in the first half. IVC used seven three-point baskets to take a 41-27 halftime lead.
The Lasers continued to hold a double digit lead for the first 10 minutes of the second half before Santa Ana rallied.
Jamie Glover hit a three-pointer with five and a half minutes remaining to pull the Dons within 64-63.
And Heather Couzens made a lay-up 30 seconds later to give the Dons their first lead since the opening basket at 65-64.
The game was tied, 68-68, with 2:54 to play when freshman point guard Patrice Fuentes put the Lasers up for good with a three-pointer.
The clutch basket was the start of an 8-0 run for Irvine Valley. Fuentes added a free throw, sophomore guard Jenna Schonfeld hit a jumper and Fuentes made two more free throws to cap the run and give the Lasers a 76-68 lead with 22 seconds to play.
Schonfeld led IVC with 25 points. She made 8 of 13 shots from the field and 6 of 9 from three-point range. Schonfeld had a team-high 19 points in the team's win over Riverside earlier in the week.
Freshman center DJ Butler added 15 points and 12 rebounds and Fuentes had 13 points, five rebounds and six assists in the win over Santa Ana.
Freshman guard/forward Ashley Dunn contributed 10 points.
And sophomore guard Shamia Briscoe also had a nice game, finishing with seven assists.
IVC made 11 of 19 three-pointers (57.9 percent) in the game
The two teams combined for a total of 23 made three-point baskets in the game.
Couzens led the Dons with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday at Cypress at 7:30 p.m.
The team hosts Golden West on Friday. The game will be played at Concordia University at 7 p.m.
