Jan 11, 2008

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team is still looking for a win in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Lasers lost their second straight conference game and second straight home game, falling to Fullerton, 77-42, Friday night at home.

Irvine Valley's record fell to 11-7 overall and 0-2 in conference, while Fullerton improved to 11-10 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Like against Orange Coast two nights earlier, the Lasers couldn't do a thing in the first half.

IVC trailed OCC, 55-16, at halftime on Wednesday and on Friday the Lasers were behind Fullerton, 37-17.

Irvine Valley shot just 29.4 percent (5 of 17) from the field in the first half and had 21 turnovers.

Fullerton made 14 of 33 shots (42.4 percent), including 4 of 8 three-pointers to jump out to the big lead at halftime.

Fullerton raced out to a 20-2 lead and never looked back.

The Hornets were up by as many as 32 points in the second half before winning by 25.

Irvine Valley shot just 23.5 percent (12 of 51) from the field for the game. The Lasers finished with 28 turnovers and just nine assists.

Only one Laser player was in double figures. Sophomore forward Nicole Tait came off the bench to score 12 points. She made 4 of 5 shots from the field, including all three three-pointers she tried. Tait added five rebounds.

Sophomore guard Jenna Schonfeld had eight points and five rebounds and freshman forward Tiffany Smith finished with seven points and eight rebounds for IVC.

Fullerton was led by Eshell Estrella and Jessica Duran, who each scored 20 points. Duran had 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals and Estrella added five rebounds and five assists.

Amy Richard contributed 11 points and eight rebounds and Kristen Cabral had 10 points and six rebounds for the Hornets.

Irvine Valley will try and get in the win column in conference when it travels to Riverside next Wednesday.
