The Irvine Valley women's basketball team played a first half that it would have liked to forget on Saturday afternoon against Imperial Valley.
IVC shot just 33.3 percent from the field (13 of 39) and trailed, 34-32, in the opening frame.
But the Lasers, who are ranked 19th in the state, found their game in the second half and came back for a 59-47 victory to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule.
The Lasers shot a much better 44.4 percent (12 of 27) and held Imperial Valley to just 13 points in the second half to pick up the win.
Imperial Valley made just 4 of 25 shots (16 percent) in the final 20 minutes of action.
IVC improved its record to 11-5 on the season. It was Irvine Valley's second straight win after dropping four of five contests.
Freshman forward Tiffany Smith led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Freshman center DJ Butler had 13 poitns and 10 rebounds and sophomore guard Jenna Schonfeld chipped in with 13 points.
Schonfeld made three three-pointers early in the first half to keep IVC in the game.
Imperial Valley (8-10) was led by Angelica Lopez's 21 points, Brandi Web's 12 points and Tasha Green's 19 rebounds.
The Lasers play again on Wednesday, hosting Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference opener at 7:30 p.m.
Orange Coast, the defending conference champion, is ranked fifth in the state.
