Women's basketball team ranked in state poll

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team is ranked in the state for the first time this season.
In the lastest poll, which came out on Monday, the Lasers are 16th.
They have a record of 4-1 on the season.
Ranked ahead of IVC in order are San Joaquin Delta, Orange Coast, Pasadena, Mt. SAC, Fresno, San Francisco, Foothill, Ventura, Sierra, Santa Ana, Siskiyous, Cerritos, Santa Rosa, Lassen and Canyons.
Irvine Valley is ranked eighth in the Southern California regional poll.
IVC is coming off an easy win last Saturday night on the road.
Irvine Valley won its second straight game, defeating LA Valley, 82-48.
The Lasers had a balanced scoring effort with 13 players contributing points.
Freshman forward Tiffany Smith led the way with 17 points. It was the fifth straight game Smith has led the Lasers in scoring on the season.
Sophomore guard/forward Jenna Schonfeld added 15 points. She made 5 of 10 three-point shots.
Freshman center DJ Butler had 10 points and 10 rebounds and freshman guard Meghan Benbow also had 10 points.
Freshman center Alleson Frampton contributed eight rebounds and freshman point guard Patrice Fuentes chipped in with eight assists.
IVC had 26 assists as a team in the game and committed a season-low nine turnovers.
Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday, hosting Southwestern in a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
Southwestern has a record of 0-3 on the season. The Jaguars lost to Santa Monica, 77-64, at home on Saturday.
Southwestern finished the 2006-07 season with a record of 13-14 overall. It was third in the Pacific Coast Conference with a record of 9-3.
