Feb 03, 2007
The Irvine Valley College women's team has received commitments from two players for the 2007-08 season, announced head coach Julie Hanks.
Center DJ Butler and guard Ashley Nicole Dunn, both from Ocean View High, are slated to play for the Lasers next year.
Both are seniors at Ocean View this season.
Butler is a 6-2 standout center. She has played four years of varsity at Ocean View and has been named the team's most valuable player her first three seasons.
Butler was named second team all-league and all-CIF as a sophomore and first team all-league and all-CIF as a junior. She was also nominated for the McDonald's All-American game.
Butler is averaging 16 points and seven rebounds a game her senior year and on her way to many more honors.
In a recent game against Saddleback, Butler had 26 points and 11 rebounds.
She is the daughter of former UC Irvine star player Ricky Butler.
Dunn is a 5-8 guard.
She played at Rancho Alamitos her first two seasons bef ore tranferring to Ocean View as a junior.
Last year at Ocean View she was named the team's most improved player and honorable mention all-league.
So far this season she is averaging seven points, seven rebounds and two steals a game.
In a recent contest against Orange, Dunn finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and two steals.
"I think both DJ and Ashley are immediate impact players for IVC," Hanks said. "They are very talented players, who should help bring IVC back into conference title contention.
"DJ is a complete player with excellent post skills, and can dominate the paint.
"Ashley can shoot from three-point range as well as get to the basket. She has played her entire senior season with a knee injury, so she is a tough player.
"I am very excited to have both of these players, and I am looking forward to coaching them both."
