Women's basketball team wins both games at OCC holiday event

The Irvine Valley women’s basketball team put together its first three-game win streak of the season after taking both games it played over the weekend in the Orange Coast Holiday Crossover Tournament.
Irvine Valley (8-6) had won two games in a row one other time this season.
The Lasers defeated Rio Hondo, 67-51, on Friday and Allan Hancock, 74-59, on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Emily Luckeroth and sophomore guard Danyelle Swenson each scored 14 points for the Lasers in the win over Rio Hondo.
Swenson made 4 of 8 three-pointers and also added six rebounds and five assists. Luckeroth chipped in eight rebounds and five assists.
Freshman center Kayla Acromite had 13 points and 12 rebounds.
In addition, freshman forward Nicole Tait contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Lasers in the win.
Against Allan Hancock, Swenson and freshman guard Katie Ryan paced Irvine Valley with 16 points apiece.
Ryan also had eight rebounds. Luckeroth added 15 points and Acromite finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Swenson is averaging 13.0 points and 3.4 assists per game to lead the Lasers on the season.
Luckeroth is averaging 12.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Acromite is averaging 9.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game.
Irvine Valley opens up Orange Empire Conference play Wednesday against Santa Ana at home at 7:30 p.m. The Dons were ranked seventh in Southern California and 14th in the state.
The Lasers take on Saddleback in another conference contest at home on Friday, Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Gauchos are ranked eighth in Southern California and are 16th in the state.
