Basketball player Brittney Crawford signs with Westmont
Jul 27, 2006
Irvine Valley College women's basketball coach Julie Hanks announced
that sophomore center Brittney Crawford has signed with Westmont
College.
Crawford is also a former standout player at Irvine High.
Westmont, which plays in the NAIA, is excited to have Crawford.
“Brittney brings college experience to the team,” Westmont Coach
Kirsten McKnight said. “She is strong, she’s mobile, and she’s
athletic. She is going to be able to fill a void we have had as far as
a stronger, taller, bigger post player that can defend and compete with
a lot of the great posts that we have in our conference. She will be a
great addition to our core of post players.”
The 6-0 Crawford, started for the Lasers for two seasons and was a team captain both years.
Crawford started all 31 of the team's games last season. She averaged
6.9 points and 5.9 rebounds a game. Crawford averaged 7.6 points per
game during Orange Empire Conference play.
She scored in double figures in eight contests and pulled down 10 or
more rebounds in a game four times. Crawford had a career-best 18
rebounds in Irvine Valley's 69-40 victory over San Bernardino Valley.
Crawford was named to the all tournament teams at the San Diego Mesa
and Irvine Valley tournaments. She was also named a scholar athlete at
Irvine Valley.
Crawford helped the Lasers finish with a record of 22-9 overall last season.
During the 2005-06 season, Crawford averaged 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.
Before attending Irvine Valley, Crawford, was an all-Sea View League and all-city player at Irvine high.
Crawford is headed to a Westmont team that finished with a record of
14-16 overall last season. The team was 9-11 in the Golden State
Athletic Conference.
