Women's basketball team adds players

The Irvine Valley College women's team has received commitments from six players for the 2006-07 season, announced head coach Julie Hanks.
Guard Katie Ryan and forwards Jessica White and Nicole Tait headline the class. Ryan, a 5-4 guard, is a senior at Capistrano Valley High.
She averaged 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.4 assists per game for the Cougars.
White, a 5-10 forward, is a senior at Trabuco Hills High.
She led the Mustangs by averaging 18.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game. Those were all team highs.
Tait, a 5-9 forward, is a senior at Mission Viejo High. She led her team in scoring at 9.3 points per game. Tait was also tops in the team in three-pointers made with 42.
She also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals in helping the Diablos to a 16-11 record overall and a 7-3 mark in the South Coast League.
Also a part of the recruiting class are 5-3 guard Liz Caguila, who is a senior at Dana Hills High, 5-6 guard Bethany Vergara, who is a senior at Costa Mesa High, and 5-8 forward Jenna Schonfeld, who is a senior at Capistrano Valley High.
Vergara averaged 7.5 points per game for Costa Mesa this past season and Schonfeld averaged 8.3 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Cougars.
Irvine Valley returns three players from last year’s team that finished with a 22-9 record. They are guards Emily Luckeroth and Danyelle Swenson and forward Hilda Gonzalez.
Luckeroth, who was a starter, averaged 10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds last season. Each total was third best on the team. She also set a school record with 35 points in a game last season.
The Lasers lost five players to graduation, including sophomore forward Vanessa Dominguez, who set school records in scoring and rebounding during the 2005-06 season.
