Women's basketball team starts season with win

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team got its season off to a fine start Monday night.
The Lasers defeated El Camino, 77-67, in a nonconference game at El Camino.
Sophomore forward Vanessa Dominguez picked up right where she left off her freshman year, finishing with a team-high 25 points. Dominguez led the team in scoring and rebounding last season at 18.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game
Freshman guard Robin Smith added 23 points. She scored 14 of those points in the second half to help Irvine Valley put the game away.
Irvine Valley led, 40-24, at the end of the first half before El Camino crept back in the game in the second half.
Freshman forward Emily Luckeroth added 11 points and sophomore guard Cassey Brick and sophomore center Brittney Crawford each finished with six points for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley plays in the San Diego Mesa tournament this weekend and then has its first home game of the season next Wednesday night against Arizona Western at 5 p.m.
A preview of the 2005-06 women's basketball team will be displayed early next week.
