The Irvine Valley men’s volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with an easy three-game sweep over San Diego Mesa on Wednesday night at home.

The Lasers defeated the Olympians, 30-21, 30-18, 30-24, to improve their record to 13-5 overall and 10-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley got 18 kills and three digs from freshman outside hitter Brandon Directo, nine kills, four aces and three blocks from freshman middle blocker Taylor Galliano, 10 digs from freshman libero Nick Castello and 16 assists from freshman setter James Alexander in the victory.

Irvine Valley will finish second in the Pacific Coast Conference standings, one match behind first place Golden West.

By winning the conference, Golden West gets an automatic berth into the state tournament, which will be held at Irvine Valley April 23-25.

The Lasers had won the conference title the last two years.

Irvine Valley, the two-time defending state champion, now moves on to the Southern California Regional finals.

The Lasers will host Santa Monica next Tuesday night at Irvine Valley with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Irvine Valley defeated Santa Monica in four games earlier this season at IVC.
