Men's volleyball media day this Monday at IVC
Feb 21, 2009
Irvine Valley College is proud to host the first-ever Orange County Men’s Volleyball Media Day on Monday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
"We look forward to seeing America’s epicenter of men’s volleyball come to IVC in an attempt to create the level of exposure the sport deserves," IVC Athletic Director Keith Shackleford said.
The event will include coaches from OC powerhouse programs such as UC Irvine, Irvine Valley, Orange Coast and Golden West.
Irvine Valley has won the last two community college state titles. The Lasers defeated Orange Coast for the title last season.
UC Irvine won its first men's volleyball NCAA national title in 2007. UCI went 29-5 overall that season, which was the most wins in school history and the most in the country that season.
And the event will be headlined by volleyball legend Karch Kiraly as the guest speaker.
Kiraly is the only person to have won Olympic gold medals in both the indoor and beach versions of the sport.
The media day will begin at 6:30 p.m. in IVC's Library. Kiraly will speak at 6:35 p.m. and will be followed by UCI head coach John Speraw at 6:45 p.m., Golden West head coach Mike D'Alessandro at 6:55 p.m., Irvine Valley head coach Tom Pestolesi at 7:05 p.m. and Orange Coast head coach Travis Turner at 7:15 p.m.
The event will be digitally filmed for later broadcast on the IVC web site, You Tube and Channel 33 in Irvine.
