Men's volleyball team gets swept at Long Beach

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team was swept for the first time this season, falling to Long Beach City on Friday night on the road.
The Vikings came out on top, 30-26, 30-24, 30-20.
Irvine Valley hit just .071 in the match. The Lasers were led by freshman outside hitter Brandon Directo with 11 kills and five digs. Freshman Garret Dvoracek contributed eight kills and five digs.
Freshman Corey Brophy finished with six kills and Taylor Galliano added five kills.
Freshman setter James Alexander had 27 assists.
IVC's record dropped to 2-2 overall.
Long Beach City improved to 4-0 overall. The Vikings have yet to lose a game this season.
The last time these two squads met was at last year’s state championship semifinals. IVC swept the Vikings on their way to the state title.
“The sophomores were ready for the match and really wanted the win,” said LBCC head coach Randy Totorp. “I think they made a statement. I’m sure we will probably see Irvine Valley later on in the postseason.”
Sophomore outside hitter Antwain Aguillard led LBCC with 13 kills and six blocks.
Sophomore setter Chuck Chamberlain had a good night with 27 assists, 10 kills, 10 digs, and five blocks. Freshman outside hitter Fidelix Ojo chipped in with seven kills and four blocks.
Irvine Valley plays again at Santa Monica on Wednesday. The match is at 2 p.m.
The Lasers will be home on Friday when they host Moorpark at 6 p.m.
