The California Community College Athletic Association Men's Volleyball Championship tournament is being held at Irvine Valley College this Thursday and Saturday.
The semifinals are at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday with the state final scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Defending state champion Irvine Valley is the top seed for the event. The Lasers captured their second straight Pacific Coast Conference title two weeks ago and enter the tourney with a record of 16-2 overall.
Santa Monica, which won the Western State Conference, is the No. 2 seed.
Four teams will play regional final matches this Tuesday to earn a chance to face Irvine Valley and Santa Monica in the state championship semifinals on Thursday.
Long Beach City hosts Palomar at 6 p.m. while Orange Coast hosts Santa Barbara City at 7 p.m. for the right to advance.
The winner of the Orange Coast/Santa Barbara match will meet Santa Monica in Thursday's 5:30 p.m. semifinal and the winner of the Long Beach/Palomar match will take on Irvine Valley in the 8 p.m. semifinal.
Orange Coast swept Santa Barbara and Long Beach swept Palomar earlier this season.
IVC is looking to win its second consecutive state title and third overall (1993, 2007).
The Lasers are led by two-time Pacific Coast Conference player of the year Peter Johnson, along with middle blockers Nick Martus and Adam El-Rakabawy, outside hitters Morgan Suttich and Reese Haine, libero Kaleo Baxter and setter Phil Younglove.
