The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team had its string of straight-game victories broken on Friday, but the Lasers still won, defeating Palomar in four games (30-25, 30-25, 27-30, 30-25) in a Pacific Coast Conference match at Palomar.
IVC had recorded sweeps in its previous four matches.
The Lasers was led by middle blockers Nick Martus and Adam El-Rakabawy.
Martus, a freshman, had a season-high 17 kills to go along with seven blocks. He also hit .571 (17-1-28).
El-Rakabawy, a sophomore, hit an outstanding .867 (14-1-15) and finished with 14 kills and seven blocks.
Freshman outside hitter Reese Haine also had 14 kills. He added seven digs and three blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Peter Johnson contributed 11 kills and three blocks, sophomore outside hitter Tim Golden had seven kills, six digs and four blocks and sophomore libero Kaleo Baxter finished with a team-high 13 digs.
Freshman setter Phil Younglove ended with 68 assists and four digs.
IVC hit .460 as a team and had 28 total blocks. The Lasers ran their record to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in conference.
Irvine Valley hosts Grossmont in a conference match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Grossmont had a bye last Friday. It lost to Palomar, 30-20, 23-30, 30-16, 30-20, last Wednesday.
The Griffins have a record of 1-9 overall and 1-3 in conference.
They are led by Kyle McDonald, Mike Mann and Andrew Paiva. McDonald is averaging 2.55 kills per game and Mann is averaging 2.42 kills and 1.55 blocks per game and hitting .392. Paiva is averaging 3.06 digs a game.
