The Irvine Valley men’s volleyball team recorded its fourth straight sweep to start Pacific Coast Conference play, beating San Diego City, 30-15, 30-17, 30-14, Wednesday night at home.
The defending state champion Lasers improved their record to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in conference.
The victory was also the team’s sixth straight overall. IVC’s lone loss this season was to Los Angeles Pierce in four games on Feb. 15.
In Wednesday’s match, sophomore outside hitters Tim Golden and Morgan Suttich led the way with 11 kills each. Suttich added a team-high 12 digs. Golden finished with six digs.
Freshman middle blocker Nick Martus contributed nine kills and three aces and sophomore middle blocker Adam El-Rakabawy finished with six kills and six blocks.
Freshman setter Phil Younglove recorded 32 assists and 12 digs before turning things over to fellow freshman Andrew Mabry, who chipped in with seven assists.
San Diego City’s record slipped to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at Palomar at 6 p.m. Palomar entered this week with a record of 3-5 overall and 1-1 in conference.
