Men's volleyball team wins conference opener

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team opened Pacific Coast Conference play with an easy 30-19, 30-20, 30-19 victory over San Diego Mesa at home last Friday.
The Lasers improved their record to 6-1 overall.
IVC got contributions from a number of players in the match. The team hit .466 overall.
Leading the way was sophomore outside hitter Morgan Suttich, who had 12 kills, five blocks and four digs. Suttich also hit .786 (12-2-14) for the contest.
Sophomore outside hitter Peter Johnson addded seven kills and hit .417 and freshman middle blocker Nick Martus had seven kills, seven blocks and hit .600. Sophomore middle Adam El Rakabawy chipped in four kills and five blocks and freshman setter Phil Younglove finished with 27 assists and five blocks.
Irvine Valley has two huge conference matches this week. The team plays at Golden West on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then hosts Orange Coast on Friday at 6 p.m.
IVC, Golden West and Orange Coast are the three favorites for the conference title this season.
