Irvine Valley College men's volleyball coach Tom Pestolesi announced that Sean Grubbs (Newport Harbor High) has committed to play at Pepperdine next season.
The 5-10 freshman libero played a big part in Irvine Valley winning the Pacific Coast Conference title and then the State Championship this season.
Irvine Valley defeated defending state champion Long Beach City in five games in the State Championship final match on April 28 at Santa Monica College.
Grubbs had a team-high 10 digs in the title match. He finished with a season-high 18 digs in IVC's five-game state tourney semifinal win over Pierce.
Irvine Valley finished the year with a record of 17-2. It won its final eight matches of the season.
Grubbs helped lead the Lasers to the program's second ever state title - the other coming in 1993.
He played in all 79 games on the season and averaged 2.54 digs. He also finished second on the team in aces with 28. Grubbs led the Lasers in digs in 15 of their 19 matches.
Grubbs was named first team all-Pacific Coast Conference.
He is headed to a Pepperdine squad that advanced to the NCAA Championship tournament for the 14th time in program history as a result of its 25-1 regular-season record before ending the year at 26-3.
