Men's volleyball team pulls out tough one

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team had to work extra hard to stay unbeaten on the season.
The Lasers pulled out a 28-30, 30-23, 30-28, 28-30, 15-13 win over Pierce Wednesday afternoon at home.
The match was played at 2 p.m. because doubleheader basketball contests were scheduled later in the day at IVC.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 3-0 on the season, while Pierce slipped to 1-1.
Freshman outside hitter Peter Johnson led the Lasers, finishing with 27 kills. He also had three digs and two blocks.
Freshman middle blocker Bryan Simmons added 15 kills and four blocks and freshman outside hitter Rory Jones contributed 11 kills and seven digs for IVC.
Freshman outside hitter Marcus Fernandez had three aces to go along with seven kills and four digs and freshman libero Sean Grubbs finished with a team-high eight digs and three aces.
Freshman setter Tyler Rex had a season-high 68 assists, four blocks and four digs for Irvine Valley.
The Lasers are on the road for their next two matches. They play at defending state champion Long Beach City on Friday at 6 p.m.
