Men's Volleyball Coaching Staff
Tom
Pestolesi - Head Coach
Tom Pestolesi began his volleyball career at Huntington Beach High
School. He then went on to star at Long Beach State and the University
of Hawaii. Tom has earned All-American honors in 1982 and 1983 and
has been an eight-time USAV All-American. Tom completes annuallyin
the United States National Tournament.
Tom has coached for 15 years at the high school level at Estancia
and Newport Harbor high schools. Many of Tom's former players have
gone on to have successful volleyball careers. Some of his former
players include John Wallace, Adam Lockwood, Todd and Brandi Brooks,
Matt Feurbringer, Melissa Schutz, Misty May and Jennifer Carey.
Tom has also coached professionally on the four player pro beach
tour and has had the good fortune to coach players such as Kim Oden,
Stephanie Cox, Joy Makenzie, Antonette White, Janet Cobbs and Wendy
Stammer.
Tom is the men's director for the United States Association of
Volleyball (USAV) and is very involved with directing volleyball
tournaments for juniors and men. Tom can be reached via email at

Jay Hosack - Assistant Coach
Jay played on the community college level at Pasadena City College for two years and then went on to play at UC Santa Cruz. He helped UC Santa Cruz finish fifth in the country in Division III his senior season. Jay received a bachelor's degree in sociology at UC Santa Cruz in 2002.
Jay then got into coaching and was an assistant at Pasadena City before joining UC Santa Cruz as an assistant in 1998. He was later hired as the head coach for the Banana Slugs’ men’s and women’s team in 2000. He proceeded to lead UC Santa Cruz men’s team to a top-10 ranking in the country for five straight years, culminating with a trip to the final four in 2004. Jay also coached the Santa Cruz Boy's volleyball club team for two years, leading the 18-and-under squad to second place finish at the Northern California championships. Jay then moved on to be an assistant coach at Division I Idaho State before returning to Southern California to help assist the Irvine Valley men’s and women’s programs.
He has directed clinics all over the world, including El Salvador, Guatemala and the United States. He lists his mentors as coaches Marv Dunphy (Pepperdine, U.S. men’s team), Don Shaw (Stanford) and Irvine Valley’s Tom Pestolesi. Jay was recently invited to be a court coach with the USA men’s national team. He has previously worked with the USA men’s national team in Colorado Springs, Colo. Jay was the head coach for the Riptides OC 18’s team that finished with a gold medal in the national tournament - gold division at the 2006 Junior Olympic Championships.
