Men's tennis players do well at Ojai tourney

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team had two singles players and two doubles team compete at the 106th Ojai Valley Tournament last week.
Sophomore Dan Loney won two matches in the singles draw for the Lasers. He started with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jed Nelson of Sacramento. Loney then beat Joe Heckley of Foothill, 6-1, 6-1, before falling to second-seeded Francis Yoshimoto of College of the Desert, 6-2, 6-1.
Yoshimoto ended up winning the tournament title, beating Walter Lima of Ventura, 7-5, 6-2.
Irvine Valley's Andrew Heatherly lost his first match to Ignasio Lucero of Fresno City, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles, the team of Tyler Jung and Loney won two matches for the Lasers.
Jung and Loney beat the team of Thien Nguyen and Chris Trinh of Mission, 6-0, 6-3.
Jung and Loney then beat the team of Aaron Hernandez and Mike Marciel of Cabrillo, 6-2, 6-2, before losing in the round of 16 to the team of Al Bafaiz and Jonas Temple of Chabot, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
And the Irvine Valley team of Sam Choe and Justin Shomaker also won a match.
Choe and Shomaker beat the team of Matt Newberg and Gary Vongsavath of Yuba, 6-1, 6-2, before losing to the team of Lew De Leon and Sergy Vagramian of Glendale, 6-3, 6-2.
De Leon and Vagramian reached the semifinals.
