Men's soccer team shut out at Cypress

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team fell, 1-0, at Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference match on Tuesday.
The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 2-8-3 overall and 0-5-2 in conference.
Cypress' win combined with a loss by Orange Coast moved the Chargers (8-3-3, 4-1-2)into first place tie in the conference standings with Santa Ana.
After a scoreless first half, Cypress freshman forward Bryan Arguello scored the game winning goal in the 80th minute off a corner kick by freshman midfielder Nelson Preciado.
IVC hit the post twice with shots in the match. And the Lasers played the final 10 minutes of the contest with just 10 men after a player received a red card.
Cypress freshman keeper Rafael Verdin earned his second shutout in a row, making four saves on the day.
IVC goalie Julio Trejo also made four saves on the day.
Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at 3 p.m., hosting Riverside to start the second round of conference play.
IVC lost a wild 9-6 game at Riverside the first time the two teams played.
