Sep 10, 2009
The Irvine Valley men's soccer team looked like it would earn at least a tie late in its match against Moorpark on Thursday on the road.
But Moorpark scored goals in the 84th and 89th minutes to pull out a 3-1 nonconference victory.
Moorpark led, 1-0, at halftime.
Irvine Valley answered with a goal in the 65th minute to tie the score.
Freshman Scott Drennen scored his first goal of the season off an assist by freshman Francisco Hernandez.
But the Lasers gave up the two late goals to see their record slip to 2-3-0 on the season.
Freshman keeper Kurt Bond made five saves for IVC.
"We didn't play great," IVC Coach Martin McGrogan said. "We still found a way to got back into it and then gave the game away. We made some mistakes. Players need to do their own jobs out there on the field. We are going to try our best to work things out."
Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday, hosting Glendale at 1 p.m. in a nonconference contest. It is part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
The Laser women's squad starts Orange Empire Conference play with a 3 p.m. contest against Fullerton.
