Men's soccer team takes on Yavapai in Thursday scrimmage

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team will kick off its season with a scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 20 against one of the best community college programs in the country.
The 2009 Lasers will get to test themselves against Yavapai College from Prescott, Ariz.
Yavapai has won seven national titles in its 21 years and has finished in the top four nationally 17 times.
The Roughriders had a record of 26-0-0 last season, which was a national record for wins. They are ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I Pre-season poll this season. The ranking marks the 76th time in school history that Yavapai ha held the No. 1 spot in the national poll.
Irvine Valley is looking to improve on last season's 8-10-3 overall record.
Coach Martin McGrogan has high hopes for this year's group.
Irvine Valley has several returning players, including midfielders Bryan Castillo and Brice Adams, defender Will Harrison, forward Luis Miguel and goalie Julio Trejo.
The Lasers will play their first official match on Sept. 4 in the Hartnell Tournament.
