Men's soccer team earns big win at Rio Hondo

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team earned its best win of the young season Thursday afternoon, defeating Rio Hondo, 2-1, in a non-conference game on the road.
It was just the second loss in 11 games for Rio Hondo this season.
Irvine Valley, which hadn't played in a week, showed no signs of rust in earning the victory. The Lasers improved their record to 4-2-0 on the year.
Freshman midfielder Saman Banafti and sophomore forward Erik Van Der Meulen each scored a goal for IVC. Sophomore midfielder Beau Campbell and freshman forward Bruno Sad were credited with assists.
Irvine Valley freshman goalie Mikhail Radchuk made four saves in the contest.
Irvine Valley closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a home match on Friday against Glendale at 1 p.m.
Orange Empire Conference play then begins next week.
