Men's golf team loses but plays well at Cypress
Feb 19, 2009
For the second time in Orange Empire Conference play, the Irvine Valley men's golf team posted the second best score of the four teams competing in a match.
Unfortunately, the team that posted the lowest score on Wednesday was the host school and Irvine Valley was tagged with its second loss of the young season.
The Lasers finished with a score of 377. Cypress won with a score of 372. The Chargers also defeated Santiago Canyon (379) and Cuyamaca (383).
In their first conference loss, the Lasers fell to Palomar, currently ranked No. 1 in the state. That match was played during weather conditions that included rain, hail and strong wind.
Wednesday's match, at the Navy Course in Seal Beach, was played in perfect weather. There was casual water in some fairways because of the recent rain storms.
IVC was paced by team captain Adam Ruppert's 1 over par 73. His round included one birdie, 15 pars and two bogeys.
Daniel Neben scored 75. His round was made up of four birdies, nine pars, three bogeys and two double bogeys.
Joe Chun also posted a score of 75 with three birdies, nine pars and six bogeys. Joey Fuscardo had a 76 with three birdies, eight pars and seven bogeys.
Dane Thomas scored 78. His round consisted of one birdie, 10 pars and seven bogeys.
Alex Kim had the team throw out score of 85. He had one birdie, five pars, 10 bogeys and two double bogeys.
Not competing in the match, but still playing at the Navy Course were IVC team members Sylvain Debiais and Joseph Filia. Debiais posted a score of 76 and Filia carded a 82.
On Monday, IVC will travel to the Cottonwood Country Club for the Cuyamaca Invitational.
The non-conference match will be played scrimmage style with no scores reported.
Next Wednesday, Irvine Valley will host Cuyamaca, Saddleback and Santiago Canyon at Oak Creek at 12:20 p.m.
