The men's golf season for Irvine Valley ended earlier this week at the Orange Empire Conference finals at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
The Lasers had three players competing in the event.
Sophomore Aaron Levine just missed out on being one of the five individuals to move on to the Southern California Regionals.
Levine birdied his last two holes to tie Kyle Hall of Santiago Canyon. The two played a sudden death playoff which ended, after one hole, when Hall sank a short birdie putt after Levine's birdie putt deflected off the hole.
Levine finished with a two-day score (75 on the North Course and 71 on the South Course) of 146.
Freshman Drew Exon came in at 150 (80 South and 70 North) and freshman Adam Ruppert (81 South and 73 North) finished at 154.
"Everyone had to compete for 36 holes in 104 degree heat," IVC Coach Ben Burnett said. "It was a grueling nine to 10 hours. I am pleased with the efforts of Aaron, Adam and Drew.
"Aaron was solid all day long and unlucky not to win the playoff. Drew and Adam will be the foundation of the 2009 team. Both played the South Course first and opened with non competitive scores.
"However, Drew closed with 2 under par on the North Course and Adam closed with a 1 over par 73. I was pleased with the mental toughness shown by the three representatives of Irvine Valley."
In the overall team race, Saddleback emerged from the closest race in conference history to capture the title. Palomar entered with the best record going into the tournament, but Saddleback posted a team score of 717 at finals to win.
Cypress was second at 722, Santa Ana finished at 731, Palomar finished at 740 and Cuyamaca was at 773.
