The Irvine Valley men's golf team contined its string of losing by the smallest possible margins on Wednesday at Los Serranos in Chino Hills in an Orange Empire Conference contest.
Host school Santa Ana and IVC were tied at 374 per team.
The first tiebreaker is to compare each team's sixth man throw out score. IVC freshman Cole Fisher played the last three holes, double bogey, bogey, bogey, for a final score of 82.
Santa Ana's throw out score was an 81 and the Dons won the tiebreaker and the match.
"I was still pleased with the total team effort," IVC Coach Ben Burnett said. "A score of 374 wins most conference matches."
Freshman Drew Exon and sophomore co-captain Troy Davis each played outstanding rounds of golf, according to Burnett.
Each posted scores of 1 under par 71.
Davis had one eagle, three birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys for his 1 under par score of 71.
"It was an important round for Troy as he competes for a spot in the conference finals and tries to qualify for the SoCal Regionals," Burnett said.
Ten individuals not on the top five conference teams will qualify for conference finals.
Exon had five birdies, nine pars and four bogeys in his 1 under par round of 71.
"He has been all that I hoped that he would be for the IVC golf team. Drew Exon and Adam Ruppert both have potential Division I playing ability."
Rupert, also a freshman opened with bogeys on four of the first five holes at Los Serranos. But he played the last 11 holes with one bogey and two birdies to post a final score of 4 over par 76.
Sophomore Aaron Levine played the final three holes of the tough Los Serannos South Course in 2 under par for a final score of 76 for IVC.
And sophomore co-captain Dominik Pietschmann finished at 80.
He suffered a triple bogey 7 in playing the front 9 at 6 over par.
On the final nine holes, Pietschmann had seven pars and two bogeys for a final score of 80.
IVC plays at the College of the Canyons Invitational next Monday.
