The Irvine Valley men's golf team's second consecutive team score of 381 at their home course was good enough to beat Santiago Canyon, but the Lasers couldn't defeat Saddleback or Cuyamaca in an Orange Empire Conference match on Wednesday at Oak Creek.
Santiago Canyon finished at 396, Saddleback came in at 379 and Cuyamaca finished at 378.
"We missed out on an excellent opportunity to open tne season with a conference record of 5-1," IVC Coach Ben Burnett said. "For the next three weeks, the team will be playing matches at their rivals home courses.
"We will have to focus on defeating only the host school and trying to pick up the nine victories that I think will be required for the total team to qualify for the conference finals."
The Lasers got solid scores from three players on Wednesday.
Freshman Drew Exon opened with a birdie and a birdie and played the first 10 holes in 3 under par.
His four birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys put him at a score of 71 to lead the team.
Freshman, Adam Ruppert had two birdies, 13 pars, and three bogeys for a score of 72.
Sophomore co-captain Dominik Pietschmann played the last 10 holes at 2 under par and finished at 74 and sophomore Aaron Levin and freshman Cole Fisher each had scores of 82.
