The Irvine Valley men's golf team finished its first tournament of the season, taking seventh in the Tee Off Classic at Los Serranos in Chino Hills.
Irvine Valley ended with a two-day score of 767, including shooting 383 on the final day. Cypress won the event with a score of 743. College of the Canyons was second at 747 and Santa Ana took third at 750.
Irvine Valley's top individual player was sophomore Dominik Pietschmann, who finished at 148. He shot 71 on the first day and 78 on the second day.
Pietschmann finished 11th overall.
College of the Canyons' Abraham Lee was the top individual with a two-day score of 143. Cypress' Raj Samra and Mark Williams tied for second at 145.
IVC Coach Ben Burnett substituted three new players into the lineup on the final day of the tournament.
"I want to let team members show me how they perform under competition pressure," he said.
It also gave Burnett a better feel for who his top six players will be.
IVC has two important home Orange Empire Conference matches coming up on Feb. 20 and 27.
"Those will be of great importance," Burnett said. "As the host school we will be playing for a win or a loss against every visiting team. Our outcome against the conference schools should probably be decided by only a few total team strokes."
Irvine Valley hosts its own IVC Invitational next Monday at Oak Creek.
