All nine Orange Empire Conference teams plus Citrus and Cuyamaca teed it up for the first of the annual two-day Tee Off Classic golf tournament at Los Serranos Country Club.
Half the field played the par 72 North Course. The other split squads played the par 74 South Course.
Irvine Valley co-captain Dominik Pietschmann posted a 1 under par 71 on the North Course.
IVC co-captain Troy Davis scored an even par 74, on the South Course.
Both Pietschmann and Davis are sophomores.
Aaron LeVine, returning after a one year layoff from the IVC team, scored a 4 over par 78 on the South Course.
"In order to win in this toughest of all community college conferences in the United States, we need two of our next three players to shoot 4 over or less," Irvine Valley Coach Ben Burnett said.
"We are looking at the rest of the squad to step up and perform to such a high standard."
Burnett feels he might have the golfers to do just that. Lefty's Drew Exon and Cole Fisher could be two of those golfers. Right-handers Adam Ruppert, Jody Clark,Chris Ho, and Dalton Shane are also capable of such scores, according to Burnett.
On Monday, Clark shot 7 over on the South Course. Fisher shot 7 over 79 on the North Course. And Ruppert shot 86 on the North Course.
The tournament finishes up on Wednesday at Los Serranos.
Burnett will give Ho, Exon and Shane an opportunity to shine.
"I want everyone to have a chance to show me how they perform under competitive pressure," Burnett said.
